When Should I Seek Medical Advice With A Cold or the Flu?

We sometimes talk about red flags in illnesses. These are symptoms that are particularly important and signal that we ought to take more care and look closer at what’s going on.

The red flags in coughs, colds and flu are persistent symptoms that go on for more than a week or so. These can include symptoms like a high fever, chest pain, a bad cough producing thick, yellowish green phlegm, trouble breathing or someone becoming faint and dehydrated.

These are the sort of red flags where really it’s probably best to go and see a doctor and check out what’s going on.
