What are the Symptoms of Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s is by far the most common form of dementia. It accounts for around 60-80% of all dementia cases. So what are the symptoms of Alzheimer’s and how do they change as the disease progresses?

What are the symptoms?

Early Alzheimer’s symptoms can be hard to spot, as they are often associated with ageing. The main two to look out for are minor memory problems and a difficulty expressing thoughts and saying the right words. While forgetfulness can be a natural part of the ageing progress, someone with early dementia may forget how to complete everyday tasks like dressing or cooking.

As the disease develops these symptoms worsen. The patient may also experience disorientation and forget even the most of familiar places. Someone with Alzheimer’s can forget where they live or even where they are and how they got there.

Personality changes are also a common symptom associated with worsening dementia. While mood swings can be a normal occurrence for some people, dementia can cause a person to become overly suspicious, apathetic or anxious.

If you are worried about you or a loved one developing Alzheimer’s disease, then seek the advice of a medical practitioner.
