Osteopaths and physiotherapists successfully treat migraines and headaches, but first of all, we need to establish the cause of the migraines. A group of causes is cervicogenic . ‘Cervico-‘ meaning neck and ‘-genic’ meaning origin, so headaches caused from the neck. If the neck muscles get tight, or a person’s particularly stressed, what it can do is it can affect the blood supply and the nerve supply feeding up into the head, which can cause some headaches. The way we treat them is we establish whether the neck was the causative factor, we improve the mobility of the neck, reduce the muscle spasm, free those stiff ligaments up in the neck, and that, in many cases, helps dissipate the headache straight away.
